【イベントレポート】英語学位プログラムや海外大学を完全解剖!現役生の語る大学生活のすべて(国内大学 文系)

  • carry out my own research

  • open-research with graduate students
  • flexible curriculum
  • surrounded by nature
  • access to the latest technology and variety od resources
  • courses may be challenging with courseworks and assignments
  • may not be able to take courses you like since you may have to submit the essay aboutwhy you want to take the course
  • difficult to participate in club activities held outside of SFC
  • incovenient access from the station

 

Waseda University SILS
Why SILS
  • Study in a global environment
  • Maintain your mother tongue (English) and learn new languages
  • Want to have a major while taking a range of different classes
  • Want to take courses where your efforts will be rewarded
Personal Thoughts on SILS
  • Small classes (20-30)
  • Liberal Arts education
  • International environment
  • Large campus and resources
  • Majority of the classes are larger than you think
  • Japanese and international students have little interaction
  • Focused mostly on economics and international relations
  • Introductory classes are very demanding

 

International Christian University
Why ICU
  • Unsure what to major in university
  • Like to learn from multiple disciplines
  • High quality English program in Japan
Personal Thoughts on ICU
  • Prestigious liberal arts program
  • International environment
  • Small classes with multiple group discussions and presentations
  • Located far from other universities
  • Buildings are old compared to other universities
  • It is a Japanese university and does not provide a full English program (Must take some lectures in Japanese)

 

Q&A

EDESSA, PEARL and GIGA

Q1) Did you need to submit your TOEFL score?
EDESSA No, it wasn’t required but I did take one and submitted it just in case.
PEARL I took one and my score was 91.I took one and my score was 91 though my friends seem to have scores higher than me.
GIGA Yes, I scored around 110. It was said to submit either TOEFL or IELTS. My friends scored between 95 and 100.
Q2) During Covid-19 period, was the classes mostly online?
EDESSA For me, it was mostly online. But the facilities at my department have been renovated to make more classes face-to-face.
PEARL Since many PEARL students were still outside of Japan, classes were mainly online. In my case, my seminar and some classes from other disciplines were face-to-face.
GIGA A lot of students were still overseas and the campus access was not great forcing students to travel far, classes were mainly online.
Q3) How many people move on to graduate school?
EDESSA Not answered during the session. *1
PEARL I’m not sure but I feel like many choose to take a job. *2
GIGA Continuing to masters is quite familiar for GIGA students because SFC is next to the graduate school and students have seminars with grafuate students.*3

*2 Keio university has not issued an official statistics as the PEARL is a newly established program.

ICU

Q2) How many people move on to graduate school? *5
SILS About 10% go on to graduate school.
ICU About 20% move on to graduate school.
Q3) Which industry do the students work in?
SILS The common industries include Information and communications, banking and insurance, manufacturing industries.
ICU The graduates find employment in wide range of industries, particulary with global companies; The top three industries are information and communications, scientific research, manufacturing industries.

  • とても上手に授業を進めてくださいました。回答をしたときに仮に間違った回答や趣旨から外れた回答をしてしまっても、決して否定せずに肯定的なアドバイスをくださり、時にはその解答を活かしたアドバイスなどをしていただけたことによって、「回答をすること」自体も楽しくなったようです。子供の考えを丁寧に聞いてくださるため、モチベーションが自然と上がっていきます。授業の内外関わらずコミュニケーションをとりやすく、モチベーションを維持することができました。
